Sarah got married, and the kids got cuter

Well, we’re home from the weekend in Oregon, the weekend in which I learned three very important things:

1. When going on any car trip, imagine how many times you think two children will need to pee and then double it.

2. My sister looks beautiful in a wedding dress, and even though I said I wouldn’t cry, I still did.

3. My bonus Mom makes amazing pie.

I’d post pictures of the wedding, but I’m not going to do that yet, until Bert and Sarah get their wedding gift, which may or may not include some of those photos, wink wink, nudge nudge, know what I’m saying?

I did get two great pictures of the kids, tubing down the creek that runs behind the house where Sarah’s Dad lives (and where she had the wedding).

It took him awhile to get the confidence to jump on and let himself float downriver to where Uncle Bryan was waiting, but once he did, he never wanted to stop. I loved watching him lose himself to the fun of it. He’s more cautious than Beth is, which is maybe a first-child thing? Seems to be, from what I’ve read. He’s less risky. He spent a good ten minutes working out just how to lay on the tube, watching the creek with his head cocked like he was calculating the speed of the current. Meanwhile, Beth and their cousin were throwing themselves down and floating away.

You know, it just occurred to me that his being more cautious (especially in situations involving water) might be due to the fact that he can’t hear. His hearing aids aren’t on when he’s wet. It must be disconcerting to lose a whole sense, and then get IMMERSED at the same time. He may start out cautious, but he’s braver than most, I think.

Sometimes I’m like, “You know, we need to stop telling her how gorgeous she is and compliment her MIND or something,” and then I take photos like this one and I’m like, “Naaaah, she’ll get everything she wants in life JUST FROM THE CUTE.” Seriously though, if I had a nickel for every time someone at the wedding stopped to tell me how beautiful and big the flower girl’s eyes were, I could have paid for Rah’s wedding all by myself.
